What can affect your speed
- The speed of the websites and services you're connecting to.
- Your device's own capabilities (e.g. the max speed for an iPhone 7 is 450 Mbps).
- Multiple streaming activities or other bandwidth-heavy uses running at once.
- Wireless signal frequency — 2.4 GHz vs. 5.0 GHz.
- Router limitations (e.g. Wireless N300/N150 routers max out around 100 Mbps).
Ways to optimize your speed
Upgrade your router
Avoid routers labeled "Wireless N300 or N150," "10/100 Base T," or "2.4 GHz Only." Look for "Dual Band," "10/100/1000 Base T," and "2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz." Recommended: ASUS (RT-AC68R, RT-AC66R, RT-AC56R) or TP-Link (Archer C7, Archer C59).
Reboot your computer
Restart your device periodically to close background programs that may be using bandwidth.
Reduce active applications
Minimize simultaneous applications and browser tabs.
Update your software
Enable automatic updates so your device stays current with the latest performance and security improvements.
Clear your browser cache
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete in your browser.
- Select the items to clear from your browsing history.
- Click Delete/Clear, then restart your browser.
Optimize your wireless connection
Connect to "Stellar 2.4," "Stellar 5," or "Stellar Registered Devices" for the best performance.
