Bipartisan Infrastructure Law & American Rescue Plan Helping Expand Access to High-Speed Internet in Michigan
EAST LANSING, MI – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) toured STELLAR Broadband in East Lansing today to highlight how the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will advance high-speed internet deployment and expand partnerships. Peters discussed how the bipartisan infrastructure law he helped pass will provide Michigan with a minimum of $100 million to help provide high-speed broadband coverage across the state, including access to the at least 398,000 Michiganders who currently lack it. Peters also supported the passage of the American Recue Plan, which included $10 billion for the Coronavirus Capital Projects Fund to help cities and counties fund critical capital projects like broadband access.
“I was proud to help pass the bipartisan infrastructure law and American Rescue Plan to expand access to high-speed internet access for Michiganders and close the divide we see across our state,” said Senator Peters, a member of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee. “Whether you’re a student or running a small business, access to high-speed internet is essential to achieving success in the 21st-century economy. The investment made by the bipartisan infrastructure law will expand opportunities for partnerships at the local and state level, help connect folks in our communities, and create new economic opportunity in both rural and urban areas. I thank STELLAR Broadband for having me today to discuss this critical issue and see how it impacts Michiganders firsthand.”
“The investment in expanding high-speed internet access through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law creates new opportunities for us to connect Michiganders and I applaud Senator Peters’ leadership to make this possible,” said Richard Laing, President of STELLAR Broadband. “It was great to host Senator Peters today and show him firsthand how our work impacts the unserved and the underserved in our local communities. I thank him for his partnership in helping to close the digital divide, and ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to have access to high-speed internet.”
“It was a pleasure to view STELLAR Broadband’s facilities with Senator Peters today and discuss how the bipartisan infrastructure law he helped pass will deliver for folks in Michigan,” said Jim Conklin, Victor Township Supervisor. “In our community, there are many residents who lack access to this much-needed service but the bipartisan infrastructure law will help close the gap. I thank Senator Peters for his efforts to deliver results on this vital issue and look forward to working with him to expand high-speed internet in Victor Township.”
