2001

Founded

STELLAR Broadband was founded in 2001 as Spartan Net Co., with a vision of providing the best Internet experience that a fiber optic network could deliver.

2002

Established as ISP

Merit signed Spartan Net as a service provider and we began our partnership with DTN Management Company, servicing over 1,000 units in student housing across East Lansing.

2003

First Office Space

Established our first office space, located in the basement of DTN Management Co.

2004

Acquired First Metro Fiber Optic Ring

Acquired our first metro ring fibers, increasing our fiber build by 50 miles and extending into the greater Lansing area.

20052006

First Technician & Napster Partnership

Hired our very first technician, Ryan, who now serves as our Director of Network Operations. Additionally, we partnered with Napster to allow university residents who had accounts to use the service.

2007

First Spartan Net Logo

We debuted our first logo for Spartan Net as well as launched our first website.

2008

Registered as Private ISP with Arin

In 2008, we officially registered as a private ISP with Arin (American Registry for Internet Numbers).

2009

Spartan Net Moved to a Larger Office

In 2009, our team and property portfolio grew so rapidly that we needed to expand our office and moved our operations to the Hamptons located in East Lansing.

2010

Spartan-Net was the first in Michigan to deploy 1-Gigabit Broadband to Apartments

In 2010, our team completed our first ever 1-Gigabit deployment to apartments. This was a cutting-edge service for its time and allowed our clients to provide their residents with the best available broadband experience.

2011

First Website Rebrand

In 2011, we launched our first website revision and design refresh.

2013

Expanded to our Current STELLAR HQ Office

As our portfolio and team needs grew, we needed a bigger space. In 2013, we moved to our current office located in the Carriage Hills plaza in East Lansing.

2015

Launched First Online Subscription

We launched our first online subscription process in 2015. This allowed us to take in a higher volume of orders and provide a more seamless onboarding experience for our customers.

2016

Expanded network to Grand Rapids

We serviced our first Grand Rapids property in 2016, Arena Place, which marked our entry into the Grand Rapids market.

2019

Nationally Recognized for First 10-Gig Deployment in Student Housing

We were nationally recognized in partnership with Nokia, as the first 10-Gigabit Fiber deployment in student housing at The Landmark on Grand River in downtown East Lansing.

2020

Launched Custom-Built Property Management Portal

In 2020, we launched our custom property management portal built by and for property managers. This platform eases the day-to-day for property managers and their staff by giving them the access to manage, track, monitor and support their residents technology service.

2021

Rebrand to STELLAR Broadband

As we continued to expand and enter markets across Michigan like Ann Arbor, we needed a name that could scale with us and more closely align with the type of service we deliver. This ultimately sparked the renaming of our company and rebrand to STELLAR Broadband.
